In 1961 President Kennedy set the bold goal to land and safely return humans on the moon before the end of the decade. On July 16, 1969, following the most productive decade regarding space exploration in human history Apollo 11 launched on board a Saturn V rocket. Arguably the most remarkable accomplishment of human history followed in the successful execution of the Apollo 11 mission.
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moonwalk with this set of six gold stainless steel coasters, custom engraved with the Apollo 11 mission insignia in the unique style of TattedMetal.
Several methods of the style are on display in this piece. The moon surface, the face of the eagle, and the inner rim appear bright white under most lighting. The earth in the background is a subtle iridescent that can appear faint under some lighting angles. The eagle's feathers and body is styled in a variety of tones and iridescence. The olive branch the eagle holds is iridescent.
As with all pieces, these etchings are durable and long lasting. The iridescence or any “color” perceived is due to the physical reshaping of the steel at the nanometer level. No pigment or paint has been added to create these effects. The refraction of light as it is reflected by the steel surface creates the prismatic scattering of light that our eyes catch as either white, black or any color of the rainbow.
